「唔抵」給扣分的錯
好些日常英文的錯誤，見大學生以至在職的人都常常犯。這些瑕疵，儘管都不會引起誤會，口語上甚或廣為接受；隨口說了，人家聽得明就好，都是小錯，沒什麼大不了。但一旦用於面試——包括申請學位、獎學金以至求職等——一個不好給考官、老闆用作英語程度評分，就非常「唔抵」，不值得，not worth it。
以下是一些例子：1. 尋找、尋求—— To seek （×for）×We need to seek for help.
We need to seek help.
Seek 後面不要for，seek 本身就解look for。
例：Please can we seek your views on this?
請問我們可就此事徵詢你的意見嗎？
同時留意seek 的過去式是sought。
例：Last year more students sought campus counselling. 去年有更多學生尋求校園輔導。
2. 歧視——To discriminate（記得要有）against ×They discriminate the newcomers.
They discriminate against the newcomers.
例：We must not discriminate against people on the basis of skin colour. 我們不應以膚色歧視別人。
小心改做被動式，一樣保留against。
例：I feel I am being discriminated against.
我覺得我受到歧視。
3. 丟棄—— To dispose（記得要有）of ×She disposed the rubbish.
She disposed of the rubbish.
例：The sofa may be old but it is not meant to be disposed of. 那張沙發儘管舊，但不是準備給丟掉的。
會有人把dispose of 寫成dispose off，一樣不對。
例：The hospital wants to dispose of (×off)the old equipment. 醫院要丟掉舊儀器。
