「霞廈下蝦暇」
霞廈下蝦暇，這幾個字，不知道算不算是急口令，普通話讀xia，用廣東話讀就是一串「哈哈哈」，最後「蝦暇」的音韻就跟英文說”ha ha!”一模一樣。
類似的英文發音遊戲，異字同音的有hare 野兔— hair 毛髮，threw 投擲— through 穿過，base 底部、基地— bass 低音等。
而同字異音，亦作別解的例子非常多，特別的有polish and does ︰Polish 是波蘭人、波蘭的。但to polish（擦亮）的po，讀”poh”，與「波」押韻。
Does 這個字大概人人都識， 但有另一款does。Doe（讀音像粵音的「刀」）是一隻雌鹿，眾數係doe + s，讀法就係doe-s。（記得DoRe Mi 那首歌嗎？開口就係”Doe, a deer, a femaledeer”。）
比起中文， 英文的發音麻煩得多， 是個phonetic labyrinth（語音迷宮），許多時學了拼音也不管用，總之要死記。例如︰How、now、cow、vow，但忽然就要說low！
Four、pour，但tour 讀toor，而flour 就更讀成好似flower！
都是-irable 尾的字，desirable（值得有的）和admirable（尊崇的）就讀法不同。Desirable 讀中間的i；但admirable，中間就改讀很短的e 音。
還有︰”Blood and flood are not like food,Nor is mould like should and would!”以下考一考你發音︰1. Quail 是鵪鶉，那quay（小碼頭）跟規矩讀kway？
2. Verdict 是判決，那indict（起訴）一樣順住讀in-dict?
3. Though、through、dough、plough、cough、thorough、tough，以上哪個字rhymes with “enough”？
答案1. 錯。Quay 讀key。2. 錯。Indict 讀in-dite（像廣東話的「低」）。3. Tough！
