三萬尺H2O
大家乘坐飛機時都會一定感覺到機艙的空氣特別乾燥，女士們為了保護皮膚，只好無間斷地都塗上一層又一層的潤膚霜。但為何機艙的空氣會如此乾燥？
首先解釋一下飛機的空氣系統，飛機引擎會將外邊的空氣抽入，再經過調節空氣溫度的熱能交換器後進入機艙。由於飛機通常在三至四萬尺高空飛行，空氣稀薄之餘水分亦很低，再加上流經引擎及熱能交換器的高溫影響，七除八扣可想而知空氣中的水份已所剩無幾。當年沙士期間，不少人認為機艙傳染風險很高，因而盡量避免乘搭飛機。但如果從空氣系統來看，其實反而比辦公室更為安全。因為抽入機艙的新鮮空氣比例，比一般冷氣機為多，空氣循環的流動量，亦比其他室內地方為高，而且乾燥空氣亦不利細菌滋生。
其實飛機生產商早已有加濕機的設備，不過極大多數的航空公司都不會願意購買這個額外裝備。首先，加濕機本身的重量加上所需攜帶的額外用水，會導致飛機整體重量增加，需要燃燒更多燃油。其次，航空公司亦不想付出這項非必要的維修保養支出。再者，處理水份空氣混合，難免存在細菌病毒的相關風險，後果比皮膚乾燥嚴重得多。所以在可見的將來，相信大家乘坐飛機仍需要繼續忍受乾燥空氣，還是細心選購合適的潤膚霜來得實際。
