乜乜性、物物化
英文有句老話，Everything up to a point，指凡事有個限度，有條界線。
今日中文常見的乜乜性、物物化，縱有許多人批評是英式行文，但好些詞語也實在沒得代替，譬如說，demonise就是「妖魔化」，不會刻意去另譯。掉過頭來，說香港正在給「大陸化」，想破頭也無其他同義詞，正規英文甚至沒有mainlandise 這個字，但香港人大都一聽就明何所指就是。
Mainlandisation 一字，不時加上引號（”），今日本地西報至西方媒體都已有用，或就是一項語文「反攻」，由中「化」英的一個例子。
但化前化後，真要適可而止，up to a point。近日有個立法會的動議，話要評估體育政策之「普及化、精英化、盛事化」，霎時一讀，只覺真「化」得過了籠，似琅琅上口甘之如飴，無謂地把我們自身一套語文Anglicise……英文化！乜乜化，主要來自英文的-ise / -ize。上面所提的普及化，該就係popularise，通常是好事。但精英化？精英的英文係elite，借自法文，形容詞elitist，甚帶負面意思，而精英化即elitise？只准精英入場？
盛事化，更是英式中文的經典—— major event-ise？當然，真要自行造字亦無不可，文字講究潮流及時間考驗，世世代代約定俗成。但若為了自以為得意地「化」得個不亦樂乎，就過了界。
翻查一下立法會文件的英文版本，那三個「化」，出奇地，一個-ise 的字都無，用詞是：普及化- promoting sports in the community精英化- supporting elite sports盛事化- developing Hong Kong into a prime destination for hosting international sports events課堂上，曾聽一大學生說：北京要把香港鵪鶉化。鵪鶉是quail， 沒有quail-ise 的講法， 要翻譯， 或就是Beijing wants to intimidate Hong Kong 之類。
而XX 性，往往不需要。A technical problem， 「一個技術問題」就好，為什麼偏要說技術「性」問題？已有太多的笑話，像「一次性用途」（disposable）、「環保性玩具」（green toys），等等。香港的permanentresidents，也給一個性字涵蓋。看看身分證上寫的，香港永久「性」居民！
