乜姨物叔與「順嫂」
叫人做阿叔阿嬸，中外一樣，意思有好有壞；有時係尊稱，有時就不懷好意了。
英文最出名的uncle，首選Uncle Sam，代表美國政府，是個精壯白髮蓄山羊鬍子的老人，穿戴美國國旗的衣帽。二次大戰時，美國政府用這個icon 來設計徵召入伍海報，傳誦一時，襲用至今。
The new immigrant says he has not been well looked after by Uncle Sam. 這新移民說，美國政府並沒把他照顧得很好。
英國名作家Evelyn Waugh 的小說Officers and Gentlemen （ 《軍官與紳士》）裏頭，36 歲的主角因為比所屬隊伍中的其他人老，就不褒不貶地得了個uncle 的綽號。
英文有句老話︰ and Bob’s your uncle，且常加一句and Fanny’s your aunt，霎時一聽會令人摸不着頭腦，但不過是說︰ There you are， 「就係咁啦、咁就得嘞」的意思。譬如說，教人走路方向︰
Turn left, and then left again, and Bob’s your uncle! 左轉，再左轉，就是了！
Put it in the oven for 20 minutes, and Bob’s your uncle. Your dinner will be done.放進焗爐20 分鐘，就可以吃得晚餐了。
再加上and Fanny’s your aunt 是加強語氣，淨單獨用這句也可以。近年一部荷李活電影Pirates of the Caribbean （ 《魔盜王》） 中， 主角Johnny Depp （ 尊尼特普）也曾吐一句and Fanny’s your aunt！
還有Agony Aunt、Agony Uncle，是指為人解答個人問題的報紙專欄，即是我們傳統叫的XX 夫人信箱。Agony 解極大的煩惱、煎熬。
本地新聞界不時以X 叔X 姨來稱呼一些公眾人物，我亦曾有「毛姨姨」的稱謂，年輕人將之Anglicise（英文化）為Mo E E，幾得意。但一個考慮，是似乎另有新的政治人被叫X 姨姨，就不欲與之in the sameleague（同一陣營）、on the same par（同一水平）了。
英文以uncle、aunt 來罵人的話，就多帶黑白種族歧視色彩，要小心。而華爾街金融界述語中的Aunt Millie，就有點像我們口頭的「牛頭角順嫂」（亦要小心此語帶地區歧視！ ） ， 指an unsophisticated investor，對買賣並不在行、以至一竅不通的投資者。
This investment will only interest Aunt Millie! 這項投資，只會阿嬸有興趣！當今之世，這一類聽來似貶低女性的話——包括「師奶」、「女人仔」——涉嫌性別歧視。但那是題外話了，不日再談。
