出入一個畫面
都玩過砌圖遊戲吧，原本一幅不完整的畫面，砌好後，就一目了然。英文的一個俚語fall into place，也有這個意思。
● If we get this done, everything else would fall neatly into place. 如果我們把這個做好，其他一切都會妥當（可大功告成）了。
Things fall into place，跌入畫面，亦可講FIT into place，就像一塊塊砌圖各就各位。
● So she has an alibi. Now it all fits into place. 原來她有不在場證據，那一切都明朗了。
掉過頭來，另有一句字義像出了畫面的俚語，未至於fall，而係out of place。Out of place，指凌亂、缺乏組織的。譬如說，一個女子的髮型永遠似噴了一噸噴髮膠，整齊貼服至一絲不苟，可以說：
● I never saw her with a hair out of place. 同時留意此處a hair 的講法。
Out of place 更常用的意思， 是指someone or something that doesn’t belong，人或物處於令人出其不意的地方。像囡囡忽然在街頭見到老師，會覺得不自然，因為覺得老師只應跟學校及課室掛。
● The girl was a bit taken aback to see her teacher eating at the pizza place. She just found it out of place.
● It is a huge institution and I feel out of place in the set-up. 那是個很大的機構，我身處其中，沒有歸屬感。這句話主要是說缺乏了a sense of belonging。
● It was an awful occasion. I simply felt out of place. 那是個糟得很的場合，我就是覺得格格不入。
社交場面中，若是有這種不屬於此的感覺，往往是因為受到冷落，they treat you cold； 給你「冷膊頭」give you the cold shoulder 。總的來說，就是cold treatment冷處理。
就像cold call，陌生人打來的銷售滋擾電話；以及getting cold feet，膽怯了。英文的「冷」字用語，通常都「唔慌好」。
包括一句leave somebody out in the cold，是甚受歡迎的新聞用語，直譯是把人留在個冷地方，令這個人being disregarded （ 不受理會） ， 或being emotionally abandoned（感情上遭拋棄）。
● After the Iran deal, US companies now face being left out in the cold. 伊朗協議後，美國公司面臨遭殃。
● The government’s new transport policy leaves private car owners out in the cold.政府新的運輸政策毫不理會有車階級。也即是說，私家車車主是受害者。
● As far as media publicity is concerned, the budding star has been left out in the cold.就傳媒推廣來說，那個新星受到冷落了。
