「唔理啦,到時先算」,英文點講好?隨口可說Let’s leave it until the time comes. 也可以有其他款式:
● Never mind. Let’s see what happens. 還看事情發展。
● We’ll deal with it when the time comes.有需要時方才處理。
但英文亦有一句適用的日常俚語:I’ll cross the bridge when I come to it. 我到了橋,就會過橋,也就是到時先算。這句話,今日更上層樓,刪了come to 的過程,直接跳去cross 一筆:
● Never mind. I’ll worry about that when I cross that bridge.
「到時先算」,帶一點處之泰然、船到橋頭自然直的姿態,相反, 「慌死執輸」就好像㷫閤閤要撲出去的畫面, 英文是fear /phobia of missing out 。
Fear 是恐懼,phobia 是恐懼症,就去到病態。這同時是一種fear of regret ,驚死因錯失某事而會後悔。
● They always fear missing out on something big. 若發生大事,他們最驚執輸。
Fear of missing out, 網上亦簡稱FOMO, 成為名詞, 主要用於形容一款compulsive 上癮似的狀態。老是不想錯失什麼,包括時時刻刻手機不離手,誓要知道任何最新消息,就是怕執輸:
The symptoms include compulsive checking for status updates and messages, for fear of missing an opportunity for social interaction.
● I was exhausted, but I had some serious FOMO so I forced myself to go to the meeting anyway. 我已累得不像話,但因慌死執輸,就仍然迫自己去了那個會議。由此推說, 網上也就出現了fomo +phobia = fomobia 這個合成字。
● Using the cell phone is fun, but please make sure you do not develop fomobiaas a result. 手機好好玩,但千萬不要上癮。
Fear of missing OUT ON something ,同時留意這句話中,兩個介詞out on 相連一起的情。Out 是接做miss out,而on 就搭去something。
