不時有朋友好意地批評，成立動物警察之議，實屬多此一舉：每有虐待動物個案，不就見警方出動嘛。朋友忘了的，是不像漁護署或愛協，警務人員有現成的執法與檢控權。

一個誤會，是警察除暴安良忙得很，怎地先要去救貓貓狗狗？事實是，民間團體並非要求警方大張旗鼓，進行成立典禮甚麼的，只望每區有幾個愛護、認識動物及權益的警察自成小組，平日一貫執行平日任務，但一有舉報個案，會即專責跟進。事實是，旺角警署已有這樣的K-9 squad。

早前一隻叫麗麗的流浪貓給人斬斷後腿的新聞，引起頗大迴響。由救她的人代言，寫了一封信給警務處長曾偉雄。結語這麼說：「如果你堅持不成立動物警察，那就是你同意那些壞人繼續去欺負我們吧，是嗎？我知道這是不可能的，因為你是一個尊重生命的執法者。是一個文明社會的守護神。還是我真的誤會了。麗麗。」
