名人教英文 – 假設性對白
“假設性問題的答案不但同樣用過去式的動詞，亦同時使用不同個體的動詞，如用『I were』而非『I am』或『I was』，藉以強調對答的假設性。”
中文文法在動詞的時間運用和個體分別方面，變化不大，一般是以言詞表達不同的時間性，而不同的個體更不會影響動詞的運用。英文文法對不同時間性和不同個體的動詞卻有非常嚴格的規限，錯誤運用便會造成錯用文法。唯一的豁免是英文喜歡把一些假設性或不可能發生的事情，用過去式、不同時間性或不同個體的動詞顯示對答是假設的。
因此，我們在注意動詞的時間性和不同個體的動詞時，必須留意這一點。
例如： 「If you were Jackie Chan, would you have saidwhat he did?」留意動詞是過去式，顯示了這是一個假設問題， 因此答案應該是： 「If I were Jackie Chan, I wouldnot.」而非： 「If I am Jackie Chan, I shall not.」。
更需要留意的是，答案不但同樣用過去式的動詞，亦同時使用不同個體的動詞，如用「I were」而非「I am」或「Iwas」，藉以強調對答的假設性： 「If you were me, whatwould you do?」答案應是： 「If I were you, I wouldapologise.」而非： 「If I am you, I shall apologise.」或： 「IfI was you, I should apologise.」。
