名人教英文 – 曾蔭權S 的風波
學習語文永無止境，只有精益求精。驟眼看到以為文法出錯的句子， 切忌急於妄下判斷， 因為a little knowledge is a dangerous thing，一知半解，是很危險的事！
原句BOW TIE KEEP YOUR ELECTION PROMISE 是指令句（imperatives）。如要勉強加s，就要再把your 改作his, 變成陳述句（declaratives） ， BOW TIE KEEPS HIS ELECTION PROMISE——2012。自欺欺人，英文是make-believe，同是形容詞和名詞。《經濟學人》雜誌（ The Economist）的一篇政評就曾經以標題「A make-believe election」說明香港的特首「選舉」違背民主原則。
曾蔭權嘗試以「開玩笑」作藉口來開脫他「捉錯蟲」的尷尬。
但「補鑊」太遲，對他的「政治家」形象而言，已經損害甚深（the harm is done）。用特首喜愛的陳述句表達，就是Bow Tie makes himself the butt of everyone’s jokes。為什麼用現在式（present tense）而不用過去式（past tense）？因為他失言成性，成為眾人笑柄，形象滑稽。現在式有重複的意味，像是定期要做的一件事，不是「個別事件」。Butt 是靶子的意思，嘲笑對象，就是butt of the jokes，同義詞有laughing stock，直譯就是笑料的存貨，少幾分敵意，在茶餘飯後為大家提供了幽默的靈感、話題的泉源。Thick-skinned 是面皮厚，thick-headed 是蠢鈍，曾蔭權是否屬前兩者則有待讀者評論，但他對政制改革和民主的立場就肯定不是thick-and-thin （原意是好和壞的日子，引伸至經得起時間考驗）。他在1989 年有否出席「民主歌聲獻中華」？請他hand on heart（撫心自問）好好想一想。
特首向中學生高呼「抗毒！抗毒！抗毒！」無論是政改、環保、護樹或禁毒，情緒高漲，政策空泛，不禁令人由衷講一句，不是粗口，而是Oh, come off it!
