名人教英文 – get 和take 有什麼分別？
我上次講過take 和have 的用法，今次多講一個淺字：get。比如我想要一本書，可以說「Buy me a copy（給我買一本吧）」或「Borrow a copy for me from the library （ 替我在圖書館借一本）」，也可簡單地說「Get me a copy」，即是買也好借也好，總之弄一本給我。
Get 有很多引伸用法，它有「把握」、「找來」等意思。比如有人長篇大論解釋完， 問你明不明白， 他可以說「Do you understand?」，也可簡單地問「Get it?」，要是你不明白，可以說「I don’t get it.」而不必說「I don’t understand.」。Get 和understand 在這裏的意思雖然相近，但語氣不同，Understand 是一本正經，甚至有教訓的意味，get 則語氣輕鬆多了。Get 還有一個用法：怒斥某人叫他離場，可以說「Get out!」甚至「Get lost!
（不要再出現！）」，這些單音字，非常有力。
上次我講完take，今次講get，有小朋友就問：這兩個字有什麼分別？我想：分別太大了，該怎麼解釋呢？這是兩個完全不同的字，試想「Get me a copy」，如果你說「Take me a copy」就解不通了。例句︰ 「Can I take this copy? （ 我可以取這本嗎？）」、「Can I take you some fruit?（可以帶給你一些水果嗎？）、「I am taking notes.（我在做筆錄。）」。再舉個例︰「Take your medicine」表示藥已給了你，你吃吧。如果說「Get some breakfast」，就是叫你找點早餐吃，意思是未有早餐，你自己找吧。
Get 和take 在中文來說都有「拿取」的意思，但用法和意義可以完全不同。按Shorter Oxford English Dictionary的解說，get 就是seek out and take、achieve 或procure，好像你說getting thin 或getting old，就是由不瘦變成瘦、不老變成老。而take 則是grasp、seize 或get possession of，即過程完成了、達到了，你只要做「拿取」這個動作就可以擁有。所以get 和take 有相似的地方，也有根本的差異。如果你只看中文解法，就不會了解到這個竅妙。
我最後舉一個例子：跟人說「Get this!」就是叫人找東西回來，或叫人明白某些事情。如果跟人說「Take this!」，你猜是什麼意思呢？就是你打人時一拳揮去，就會說「Take this!」。你想想，這樣簡單的字、這樣短小的句子，意義可以完全不同。
