名人教英文 – Hea 的宅男
每周一篇，在此欄寄居了數個星期。欄名開宗明義「教英文」，這「教」字，就恐怕趕客，令一些年輕人一看就「唔開胃」。真是，日日上堂學乜詞物詞XX 變化的文法， 還不夠嗎？ This column might just seem unappetising to young readers。唔開胃， unappetising， 亦可改用unappealing（不吸引的）。
正經八百地寫著，沒什麼反應。周前心血來潮，一談口語「唔通、好彩」等英文怎麼講。嘩，一收七個電郵，就足證一貫的想法——學語文，最好跟真實生活來點聯繫，確切用得上。起錨？英文起錨！Anchors aweigh！
真實生活中，有「宅男」一派，日文讀otaku，這個字在英語世界仍未流通，可以改用已有的geek。兩款叫法，都有許多類同的表徵，都是being passionately （ 熱情地） obsessed （ 沉迷於） about something， 一大個共同對象， 是culture of the web（網上文化）。宅男與geek 通常都給視為待人接物尷尷尬尬，卻是「有料到」一族。They are seen as socially awkward but smart and intelligent。如是說來，nerd 也一樣？出奇的是，一般感覺nerd 比geek 蠢鈍，為安全計，一心一意說geek 就好。
Geek，且分門別類，有political geek， 「潮愛政治」。香港網上就有許多politics geeks，一有抗議行動，一呼百應。也有science geeks，亦叫scientific geeks， 「科學粉絲」。
宅男與geek， 有些hea， 有些不。本土潮語hea，用途廣泛，視乎上文下理，譯做英文hea 不得：You have to take it seriously。
形容一個人hea，若意思是讚的話，是He is relaxed（舒泰）and laid-back（自在）。如果是「彈」， 就是He is lazy （ 懶） 。He has this couldn’t-care-less attitude， 「話知你」的態度。不管彈讚，都可以說He is the happy-go-lucky type。凡事「是鬼但」的傾向樂天類型。
「去邊度hea？」Where to go to chill out?「份工好hea」The job is undemanding.
叫人「不要hea 我」，等於「請勿敷衍我，不要耍我」， 英文是「Stop fooling around with me」。Fooling 亦可改做Kidding，一樣是瞎搞、胡鬧的意思。更簡短的，是就叫對方Be serious，請認真一些。
重頭的敷衍，像說領導人不過在hea 國民，是The leader was paying lip service to the people’s demands.
Pay lip service： 「得個講字」，口惠而實不至。
