名人數英文 – 綠適生活
這次想跟大家討論的題目是環保（environmental protection） 。一直以來， 環保人士被視為激進分子（activists），很多時與主流發展基調對抗。
然而因金融海嘯，不少國家的政府均在尋找新的經濟火車頭（new engine for growth） ， 推出大手筆的刺激經濟方案（stimulus package）。聯合國呼籲經濟發達國家撥出國民生產總值百分之一發展綠色經濟（green economy），中國、美國、日本、韓國等政府都推出綠色新政（green new deal），開發清潔能源或發展再生能源，創造綠領工作（green-collar jobs）。
除了金融海嘯，我們面對的另一個挑戰是全球暖化（global warming） 。地球人現時的生活方式產生過量溫室氣體（greenhouse gas），特別是二氧化碳。
香港大部分二氧化碳來自發電。傳統燒煤發電會排放二氧化碳，香港每人每年平均排放超過6 噸二氧化碳。如果你想知道自己的平均碳足印（carbon footprint）究竟多少，是高或低於平均數，只要在電腦輸入carbon footprint 就有不同網址解釋計算方法與圖表。
香港地少人多， 未必有足夠條件大力發展再生能源（renewable energy），目前最佳減排方法依然是節能，政府亦提供配對基金，幫助大廈推行能源審計（energy audit）和有能源效益的工程（energy efficient projects），詳情可瀏覽建築物能源效益資助計劃網頁（www.building-energy-funds.gov.hk）。
談到二氧化碳，一定要提香港樹木，因為綠色樹木不單美化環境，同時吸收二氧化碳，供應清新空氣。香港有超過100 萬棵樹，但有專業知識的樹藝師（arborist）只有約100 人，遠遠供不應求，但願香港可制訂《保護樹木條例》（Protection of Trees Ordinance），委任專責管理樹木的政府官員（appoint a Tree Commissioner） ， 領導有專業知識的樹木保育人員（tree conservation officer），令香港人能享受綠「適」生活。
