外婆

外婆 楊岳橋

我是外公外婆帶大的。

兩老當年成家立室後由潮州來港，在家與子女對談不免充斥潮州話。面對幼小的我當然要遷就一下用廣東話了，但老人家嘛，激動起來還是八成潮州話的，被罵得久了，我也由一句不懂，變成「罵人潮語專家」。

在我七八歲時外公因病過世，也許當時年紀小，對人生首次的生離死別不怎麼刻骨銘心，唯獨是，外婆為老伴離世哭得肝腸寸斷的畫面到今天仍歷歷在目，畢竟那是一段超過半世紀的感情啊。往後的日子，慶幸外婆還是活得精彩，八十多歲時身體仍然硬朗得能遠渡加拿大、探望當時在外讀書的我——我離港時她哭得天崩地裂，她應該是很痛恨加拿大「搶走我個孫」的。

九十多歲經歷開腦手術後，她的日常生活大致應付得了，只是，認人開始變得困難；○九年開始，我察覺到她少講了潮州話，偶然逗她講，她總是笑像小孩般模仿說，只是，發音已比我更不標準。但始終是人瑞了，我只希望她快樂地過每一天。

前陣子外婆以一百○五歲高齡離世，幸運是離去時沒有太多痛楚，子女在與醫生商量後，同意在最後階段、病情無法挽回時不作心外壓等延長生命措施以免她走得辛苦。此刻回想，在病榻上的外婆在離開前還是微微笑，即使在臨別時還是如此地體貼我們。孔子說「未知生，焉知死」，其實並不盡然。生老病死雖是平常，在生時妥善安排後事，其實也是對自己生命負責的體現。當然，今天是天下母親一年一度的大日子，這些人生大事，不妨多待幾天才說吧。
