拎個篋走天涯
He is living out of a suitcase，這句話並非說此人「以行李箱為生」，而是「他拎着個行李箱四處去」，口語點說，是「拎個篋走天涯」，不過是形容他常常到外頭出差或旅行罷了。
曾聽一個年輕人說︰”I live on number40 minibus.” 她的意思， 自然不是真的「住在40 號小巴上」，而是自嘲形容老是坐40 號小巴線出入，幾乎以這條線的小巴車廂為家。
多讀英文，同時有助表達中文，為自己下筆加添新的意象；像形容一條晾衫繩上的衣服︰
Shirts and trousers hung drunkenly inthe sunlight. 襯衫與褲子在陽光中喝醉似地掛着，就有我們常用的「吊吊揈」畫面。
上面那句，是視覺；若說氣味，有︰
He smelled like a combination ofburning hay and wet dog. 他聞起來像燒着了的乾草跟一條濕身狗的混合。
而說聲音，就有這麼一句︰A burst of Morse Code announced thearrival of the high-heeled woman. 一陣摩斯密碼（似的噠噠聲）宣布那個穿高跟鞋女人到了。
更直接的比喻， 有as naked as anewborn（赤裸如新生兒）、as dense astreacle（濃稠如糖漿）。
去面試、辯論、上法庭或任何受到質詢的場面，自覺毫無招架能力，像給人「剝光豬」， 可哀嘆I feel naked as anewborn 。
面對任何一大疊不知所云的文件、書本、功課， 都可埋怨︰ the stuff is asdense as treacle.
近年碰上的得意短句，尤其喜歡的有︰1. A torrent of verbal graffiti， 「一條湍流似的口語塗鴉」，用來形容說話急而亂七八糟，直指語無倫次、言不及義︰He did a torrent of verbal graffiti.2. A city on steroids， 「吃了類固醇的城市」。Steroids，類固醇，可給濫用作提升體能、增加活力，套用上一個城市，是說這地方生活節奏快得有點神經兮兮︰Hong Kong is a city on steroids.
