機艙毒霧綜合症
英國死因研訊報告首次確認，一名英國航空公司副機長三年前死於「機艙毒霧綜合症」（Aerotoxic syndrome）。其實多年前就已經有機師提出機艙空氣受到引擎的潤滑油及燃油污染，影響機組人員健康，在不少學術研究中亦有同樣的質疑，但這是首次由 官方正式確認「機艙毒霧綜合症」可導致嚴重頭痛、精神錯亂、眼疾和失眠，令人體健康受損。
差不多所有民航機都是利用引擎將機外的稀薄空氣抽入並加壓進入機艙，唯一的例外就只有面世不久的波音B787客機。但筆者認為一般乘客無須恐慌，機組人員每 年的飛行小時大約有700至900小時，平常的旅客根本不可能相提並論。而且大部分的指控都是針對一些本地航空公司不再採用的舊式飛機如早期的波音 B757及英國航宇的BAe146等飛機，對新型號飛機出現污染氣體的指控其實不多。
過往航空公司及飛機生產商一一否認「機艙毒霧綜合症」的存 在，但英國航空公司及英國民航局須於8星期內回覆這次死因研訊報告的多項質詢，其事態發展必定影響整個民航業界及飛機設計，亦可能導致大規模的訴訟。不管 如何，香港民航處應該就著報告內容，細心研究是否有須要新增或修訂條例，以保障乘客及機組人員避免吸入受污染的空氣。
