法政隨筆 – 寫揮春
揮春的由來眾說紛紜。根據《山海經》，黃帝叫民眾在門上懸掛刻有「神荼」、「鬱壘」二神的桃木板以禦鬼，稱為「桃符」。有說「神荼鬱壘」後來演變成左右門神，而桃符則和對聯融合，成為春聯。今天依然沿用春聯有「爆竹一聲除舊歲，桃符萬戶慶新春」。
北宋《皇朝歲時雜記》記載， 「桃符之制，以薄木板長二三尺，大四五寸，上畫神像狻猊白澤之屬，下書左鬱壘右神荼，或寫春詞， 或書祝禱之語， 歲旦則更之」，可見當時已有桃符上題字之習俗。不過，東晉王羲之已有與春聯有關的故事，或許春聯更早出現亦不為奇。
何時始用紅紙寫春聯則不可考。清《楹聯叢話》言： 「但宋以來，春帖子多用絕句，其必以對語，朱箋書之者，則不知始於何時也。」揮春用紅紙，可能與年獸故事有關。相傳年獸怕火光、紅色和聲響，所以過年要放炮仗，貼紅紙。香港已禁止放炮仗，幸好仍保留寫揮春的習俗，保存一點過年氣氛。
我為市民寫揮春始於2007 年春節，公民黨首次在花市擺檔。寫最多的是「身體健康」和「學業進步」，大概也反映了市民的期盼。要求寫「身體健康」倒不一定是老街坊，寫「學業進步」也不一定是學生；小孩子要求寫「身體健康」送給長輩，老人家要「學業進步」，鼓勵在學孫兒。
落區寫揮春不時會遇到趣事。早幾天我到香港仔， 一名學生請我寫「兔記揚眉」，一問之下，原來她和同學們在維園花市擺檔，寶號「兔記」，而她的檔位——33 號——恰好在公民黨的檔位旁邊。還有80 後請我將以下揮春送給唐司長，回應他最近的發言「剛愎自用乃政府，關門皇帝是英年」。
