政府2001年秋公布設立環保園，投產也已5年有多。究竟它有多大成效？按政府答覆立法會財委會文件，環保園6個租戶和兩所非牟利機構，2011年合共處理3萬1千3百公噸物料。

根據環保署《香港固體廢物監察報告》，2010年香港共回收了360萬公噸可循環再造物料。約3萬2千公噸在本地循環再造，僅佔整體約0.9%，出口的則達357萬1千公噸。超過99%在香港回收的物料都是出口，紙料(119萬5千公噸)、含鐵金屬(56萬6千公噸)、紡織物(2萬公噸)和木材(1萬6千公噸)全部都靠出口。出口貨值達港幣86億元，最大份額的是塑料，佔42%，即36億元，每公噸的出口貨值是2,293元。

提供廉價土地，幫不了回收業。建立發牌制度、提升行業水平、改善回收網絡、減輕運輸成本，才能徹底協助回收業蓬勃成長。
