空心老倌與「稻草人」
空心老倌，是金玉其外、外強中乾的人，裏頭「冇料」，英文最淺白的講法，或就是a person of no substance。
如果要強調「空心」一筆，英文亦可以用empty、hollow 等字襯一襯︰
That is a charming but intellectually hollow person. 那是個討人喜歡但胸無點墨的人。
若說的空心，其實是指這個人扮富貴卻沒有錢，可說︰
He may look prosperous but he’s an empty wallet. 他看來富貴，但錢袋空空如也。
空心老倌，一般都是騙子。要直截了當表達欺詐成分，可講︰
He is a cheat. 他是個作弊者。
He is a fraud. 他是個騙子。
He is a fake. 他是個冒牌貨。
我們罵人空心「冇料」之餘，在知識層面上亦會笑人「草包」，指這個人的肚子裏就是一包草。美國人一樣有叫人做「稻草人」，straw man，但這跟一般田裏要來嚇走鳥兒的稻草人（scarecrow）不一樣，也不等於我們的「草包」，最緊貼廣東話的straw man 講法，是「紙板公仔」。
Straw man 純粹用做門面裝飾，要來掩飾其他人， a person used as a cover for some questionable activity.
He is just the straw man. He is only here fronting the show. 他只是個「紙板公仔」。他只是整件事的門面人。
另外引伸出的意思，是去「打倒一個straw man」，有三層意義︰
1. 敵人在台上豎起個稻草人等你打，亦即是設個陷阱等你踩。
2. 你又果然自覺打勝仗——其實不過是自欺欺人，真正敵人站在旁暗地裏哈哈笑。
3. 你打得好辛苦，但到底徒勞無功，就像我們流行語說的「打咩？打空氣呀！ 」。
回說空心老倌， 老倌一般指裝模作樣、pretentious 「懶有嘢」的（老）男人，就會令許多人霎時聯想上司、「老細」等人物。這類人，潮語是stuffed shirts，直譯「有餡」的恤衫。The order came from the stuffed shirts upstairs. 這樁命令來自上層「老細」。
於是，空心老倌亦可叫some pretentious stuffed shirt!
