翻譯好好玩
有一幅花生漫畫， 見主角查理布朗（Charlie Brown）一臉愁苦，配合的文字是：
I think I’m afraid to be happy because whenever I get too happy, something bad always happens.
這句子很長，但譯做中文，主角擔心的不也就是四個字：樂極生悲。
在別處讀到以下一句：Have you ever just looked at someone,and automatically felt annoyed? 你有沒有試過淨是看了看一個人，即自動（無緣無故地）覺得惱怒？
若要試譯做我們比較貼身的用語，也就是說，世上有種人，確係「雖無過犯，面目可憎」。
另有這句批評：All foam, no beer. 固然可以直譯「有泡無酒」，但更生動的是本地口語「有姿勢，無實際」。
有人試譯為「冇料到」，但沒有了虛有其表之意，不夠深入。也有提議「金玉其外，敗絮其中」，感覺卻又似言過其實，情未至於裏頭腐爛了這麼壞。All foam,no beer，個人最喜歡的中文對等話，是「只聞樓梯響，不見人下來」。
還有這句：Sometimes letting go is the only way to heal. 直譯是要捨得放棄，方是療癒（感情）傷口之道。許多人霎時聯想到的，會是老生常談的「放下，自在」。
也有其他三個不錯的提議：1. 退後一步，天地自寬。
2. 有時候，放手是唯一出路。
3. 唯有捨，才能得。
都是好句，卻會生猶豫，因為「天地、出路、得」以及上面說的自在，都似乎未能忠於原著，都像超越了原本heal 傷癒之意。
最喜歡的答案，來自網友Wong Yuen Ling：唯有放開，才可放下。
又有一網上傳來的告示牌，上寫：Warning: Trespassers will be handed over to the police — one body part at a time.
警告：擅闖者送官究治——每次一個肢體部分。又當然，尾末一筆要帶本土味道，就是「斬件地」。
最後一句是勵志篇， a spur-you-on line：
It’s better to walk alone, than with a crowd going in the wrong direction. 寧願孤單上路，也比隨波逐流走錯方向好。
這句話完全抵制羊群心態the herd mentality， 且有點標榜個人主義individualism。個人聯想到的，卻是舊時香港一首電視劇主題曲的歌詞： 「千山我獨行，不必相送」！
如此說來，翻譯不但好玩，也不太難？
錯了，因為字義文化的分別，有些話，要譯也真不知從何下手。像這句來自Minions 的詛咒：Let’s face it, after Monday and Tuesday,even the calendar says — WTF. 實在譯無可譯！
