迴轉的文字遊戲
一次在老朋友的WhatsApp 群組中，收到一幅書法圖，話說有人將之買了回家，從此婚姻生活天下太平。那幅書法寫的是四個字： 「太太怕我」。
倒轉讀，亦即「我怕太太」。要用英文講，恐怕只能譯做My spouse fears me「我的伴侶怕我」，但顯然就失了「兩頭讀都得」的樂趣。
中文傳統的讀法，由右至左。但時至今日，尤其是橫寫的中文，往往可以掉轉，甚或必須掉轉，由左至右讀起。
碰到過的類似得意句子，有「上海自來水來自上海」，倒讀就成了「海上自來水來自海上」。還有：
‧天中水映水中天。這句不管順讀倒讀，字字一模一樣。
‧日上山融雪漲江。倒讀，就變了「江漲雪融山上日」，意境就生一點迥異了。
英文也有類似的文字遊戲， 叫做palindrome，通常是指一個字、或一整句包含的字母，在倒讀的時候，意思完全不變， they read the same forward and backward。
單字的例子有許多，像level，掉轉頭串， 仍然係level。情 雷同的另有：noon、refer、civic、madam 等等，當然也包括人名如Eve、Bob。
長一點的，有race car 賽車、borrow or rob 借抑搶。
英文的palindrome，不計大細草，也不管標點符號，淨係眼每個字母。以下這句，也許就是英文當中最廣為人引述的palindrome：
‧ Madam in Eden, I’m Adam. 倒轉逐個字母慢慢唸，一樣是吧？ 「伊甸園中的女士，我是亞當。另有：
‧ Step on no pets. 不要踩著寵物。
‧ Ma is as selfless as I am. 媽媽跟我一般地無私。
‧ A Toyota’s a Toyota. 一架豐田是一架豐田。
如果想一句過教小朋友好玩的英文，以下這句最淺最方便：
‧ Was it a rat I saw? 我看到的是隻老鼠嗎？而當中的rat，改做cat 或bat 都得。
或問，有沒有像中文般，倒轉來讀是另有意思的呢？
有。譬如說， live 變成evil； dogma（教條）等於am god （我是神），也有宗教人士或會覺得褻瀆的這個組詞：
‧ dog food lid 狗糧蓋… dildo of god 上帝的性玩具。
跟中文一樣，英文也有迴文詩句，但規則有點不同，包括會用句子中間的一個字，來串起頭尾相同的字。下面這詩句，來自西方近代詩人Lynne C Fadden 一首叫Reflections《倒影》的作品：
Mirrored images REFLECT images mirrored. 鏡中影像反映給反映了的影像。
