通識 – 耳朵內的蟑螂
這些年來，我從商界走進法律界，再走進議會，或許有些人會把陳淑莊看成是「藍血」（blue-blooded）的精英分子。其實我和很多土生土長的香港人沒有分別，只是從政後，我得到很多寶貴機會和市民街坊溝通，細聽他們訴說生活的掙扎、對理想的憧憬；種種體驗，令我爭取社會公義的信念更堅定。
一名僑居外國的朋友去年夏天回港探親，在巴士上偶遇一名租住板間房的伯伯，大家攀談起來。後來，他把這件事記敘在網誌上，最精警的一段如下：”Last night a cockroach crept into my ear and woke me up at 3 in the morning.” He said, as bewildering as it sounds, when through the window I see the sparkling neon lights reflect on the glassy buildings on both sides of the harbour, in the city which prides itself on its top GDP per capita among the world.
那天，當巴士駛上東區走廊，伯伯向這名朋友抱怨昨晚有一隻蟑螂爬進他的耳朵，把他弄醒了。朋友覺得很匪夷所思，巴士窗外的維多利亞海港映照兩岸高樓璀璨的霓虹燈飾，很難想像在這個全世界最富裕的城市，原來有一群被遺忘的人，生活得那麼清苦、那麼無助。
多得功能組別這「混蛋政制」（bastard system），今天香港的民主發展如一池死水。高官權貴，包括透過自欺欺人的選舉（make-believe election）取得管治香港權力的特首，他們的薪津雖然都是來自港人之血汗稅錢，政策卻是明目張膽地向大商家、大財團傾斜，無視香港貧富懸殊之嚴重已高踞全球巔峰。
「官不聊生」是劉皇發親自炮製的soundbite（名言），亦令他成為眾矢之的（the butt of criticism）。許多人從而聯想到晉朝惠帝的那句「何不食肉糜」，還有法國大革命爆發之先，瑪莉王后天真無邪的那句Let them eat cake！畢竟，「民間疾苦」這四個字對這些特權分子來說實在太遙遠了。
這麼遠，那麼近（So close, yet so far），家住灣仔板間房的黃伯被一隻蟑螂弄得無法安寢，發叔請撫心自問︰when was the last time a cockroach crept into your ear?踏入4月，變相「公投」運動如火如荼；小女子無奈要暫停撰寫此欄。對我而言，這專欄的意義不止於「教」英語，它更像一個和讀者交流的場地，特別感謝讀者的來信支持，令我更有動力寫下去。期待不久將來能再在這裏以文會友！
