過橋抽板
過橋抽板，是罵人沒義氣，達到目的後，就把曾同甘共苦的戰友一腳踢開；所以把過橋抽板直譯做to pull away the plank (木板) after using it as a bridge，由外人聽來，容易失了原來「忘恩負義」的重頭意思。
即使講明這是一句中國諺語——As a Chinese saying goes: To pull away the plank after using it as a bridge，外國人消化一下，或會仍然只以為是罵人自私，「自己用一塊板搭橋過河後，就抽起那塊板，不讓其他人過」，沒有了「無義氣」的詛咒。驟聽，就像傳統英文的一句：Lift the drawbridge。
Drawbridge 是中間可以升起的橋。舊時西方堡壘以水圍繞防衛，靠drawbridges作出入通道，lift the drawbridge 即斷人通道。
Let’s lift the drawbridge, and cut them off. 我們眦橋，斷他們的去路。
於是要譯好過橋抽板，就不如回到英文的日常話：to use and dump， 「用過了就棄掉」。
你不要過橋抽板。You don’t use and dump us.
他被人過橋抽板。He was used and dumped.
另有一句：He has gone past his sell-by date. 他（就像食品）已過了期。是取笑人已過氣，再無利用價值。但要注意，這句話最終是說其人「自己鈬」，不一定受過人家忘恩負義之苦。
同樣地，把過橋抽板等於英文一句topull the rug from under somebody’s feet，也不完全合適。這話是說人家原本好好站在一塊小地氈上，你去扯起他腳下這塊氈，令他一仆一碌，譯做中文，就是「跣人一大鑊」！但就未必涉及過橋抽板的恩義情仇、「玩殘舊時兄弟」的問題。
回說dump 這個字， 英文講拍拖「飛甩」人，口語最常用dump。
She dumped me. 她飛甩我。He got dumped. 他被「飛」。這個講法，就任何「被拋棄」的場面都適用。He got dumped by his girlfriend. 他給女友甩了。
He got dumped in the company’s restructuring. 在公司重組中他給棄掉了。
