風骨這回事
Clearly, that’s rubbish.
Completely, that’s rubbish.
頭一句英文，沒有問題；但第二句，就不對頭了。為什麼不？讀書人，要有對文字的敏感。
士農工商，士排第一。讀書人講崢崢風骨，不失節。風骨這回事，英文中恐怕沒有絕對的對口單位，淨說an upright man，未到位，不夠隆重，一般人多會以integrity 代之。
He is a man of integrity，他甚有風骨。
He is not a man of integrity，他不是個有誠信的人。
掉過頭來，或就可形容此人calculating（計算的）、scheming（計謀的）、slimy（滑不溜手的）。
What a calculating, scheming, slimy toady！記得嗎，toady 就是「擦鞋仔」。
Integrity 包含誠實、正直、公道，說一個人會一直1. stick to a moral conviction, or a code of honour (no matter how unpopular it is)︰做人處世基於一副道德信念、一套人格價值觀（不管信念如何不受歡迎）。
2. do the right thing even when no one is looking ︰即使在不為人知之時，仍然乾淨企理，做應該做的事。上面honour 一字，既是名譽亦關乎人格，像我們的風骨氣節，西方文化一樣講究做人要有asense of honour。
He has a strong sense of honour. 視乎上文下理，這個亦可解「骨氣」，以至同門、桃園一類的「義氣」。亦令人聯想詩人北島的名句︰ 「卑鄙是卑鄙者的通行證，高尚是高尚者的墓誌銘」。
另外也有moral fibre、moral strength、moral courage 的講法，直譯是道德品格、道德力量、道德勇氣。但要注意這裏的道德，有更多「道義」的含意。
He lacks the moral fibre to be the leader. 這個fibre（纖維）比喻品性中的合成料，很有點我們口語說某人「乜料」的味道。
Our class teacher is a model of moral strength. 我們的班主任是道德力量的模範。
而問人有沒有moral courage 做一件事，通常是挑戰這個人的原則立場是否堅定， 是否aprincipled person。
