飛機燃油知多少
以空中巴士A330為例，一程雪梨至香港的航班載有約55噸燃油，差不多接近三分一的飛機重量，而飛機的油缸分布在不同位置，最常見是在機翼，機底及水平尾翼。到底燃油的分布有何特別之處？
航行中燃油會被燃燒導致飛機的重量下降，亦由於油缸分布在不同位置，所以燃油的重量會改變飛機的平衡。不理想的飛機平衡會導致燃油消耗增加，原理就 如船隻的重量過度集中船頭或船尾一樣。所以為了節省燃油，在航行時要改變燃油的分佈。舊式的飛機是由機師或隨機工程師用手動模式控制燃油分佈，而新型號的 飛機就由燃油管理電腦代勞。
另外不得不提，如因天氣或其他原因而須要攜帶額外燃油的話是有額外成本的，因為燃油本身就是重量，飛機越重，所須要的燃油就越多。再次以雪梨至香港 為例，如果想帶多1噸燃油的話，就須要攜帶額外約250kg的燃油去運送這1噸燃油。同樣道理，飛機如因乘客數量及貨物重量在最後一刻改變的話，機師會隨 著這改變而調整須攜帶的燃油。不要小覷這細微的調整，每年為航空公司所省略的費用可是以百萬千萬元來計算的。
