龍擱淺水
龍擱淺水，難有作為，好慘情，用現代日常話， 或就說He’s like a beached whale，一條擱淺在沙灘的鯨魚，幾乎死梗。
龍擱淺水亦可直譯a dragon stuck in shallow water，這樣描述，大部分人一聽大概都拿揑得到意思， 就是He is tied down，像給五花大綁，沒得發揮。若要重點帶出這句話中鬱鬱不得志之意，可一試以下被動式用語：? Being sidelined, marginalised.給邊緣化。
例︰ She was being sidelined.? Being elbowed aside.
給人用手肘推至一旁。
例︰ The director gets elbowed aside by the management.
? Being pushed upstairs.給推至樓上，亦即「升上神枱」。
例︰ The chairman has been pushed upstairs. He’s been powerless.主席給「升上神枱」，沒權了。整句「龍擱（游）淺水遭蝦戲」，英文可以是︰
He is like a dragon stuck in shallow water, and the target (目標) of ridicule (戲弄、嘲諷) by shrimps.
但這樣講英文，翻譯味道很重，亦似乎戲劇化了些。不如就說︰He’s like a beached whale. He has lost clout and is subjected to much indignity.他沒有了影響力之餘，更要面對侮辱輕蔑。亦即「虎落平陽被犬欺」。
Clout 等於influence（影響力） 、power（權力）。而indignity，跟dignity （尊嚴）相反，包括任何不禮貌的對待。要小心的是，英文也有形容大動物在小環境的現成語句，但意思跟龍擱淺水的「不得志」相反，是說在一個小範疇中不 必比併，不受挑戰，succeeds in a small area where there is little competition (競逐) or challenge (挑戰)。
Big fish/ frog in a small pond. 大魚/蛙在小池塘中。
He is the big fish in a small pond. 這樣形容一個人，包含他是「雞首」、並非「牛後」，甚至有尊崇之意。
The problem with him is that he is a big frog in a small pond. He needs some challenge. He should get more competition. 他的問題是，他是小塘裏的一尾大魚，他需要一點挑戰及更多比併。
