– You want to speak? But speakING is not alwayswise.
– To kill: The killING of the stray dog was a mostbrutal crime.
– He alerted(動詞)the chief to the attack(名詞)。
– The enemy attacked(動詞)before an alert(名詞)could be sounded.
– To feel: I want to bike around to get a true FEELof the city. - To read: This book is a splendid READ.
– To start: The START of the game has beendelayed.
– To cry: He is very upset. Just let him have agood CRY.
She smiled as their eyes met, and each took theother’s ____.
A. measure B. measurement答案係A。To take someone’s measure,等於size someone up,指估算一個人的分量,make ajudgement、form an opinion of the person,似我們口語的「睇佢有幾多斤兩」。網上字典有這例句:- At their first meeting, heads of state generallytry to take each other’s measure.
– The management people are taking themeasure of the staff’s demands.
還有一句for good measure 額外的量,外加的項目,as an extra。
– The police confiscated all their laptops, and theone belonging to their kid, for good measure.
– My happiness was beyond measure.
亦要記得,度身訂做係made to MEASURE ,不是measurement。
