Uber 與藍月亮
聽講讀寫，都係講最難，因為是即時、即興的。開口說話，已經要計較用字，考慮一下文法，倘尚要求發音字正腔圓，真會很容易給嚇窒。一直不太計較發音的問題，重要是人家聽得懂，就可以了。
常常跟年輕人說， 要發音達Oxbridge（Oxford + Cambridge）水準，是個目標，但暫且次要，屬未來更上層樓的事。眼前，樂意隨時隨地開口講英文就好。
譬如說， 若把mosquito （ 讀mos-kee-toe）講成mos-kwee-toe，聽者不難明白。儘管是讀錯了，還望有人指正，或講者早日自我糾正，但總不能因為對一個字的發音猶豫，就不肯開口。事實上，口語道來，一些字有沒有讀錯，也未必能即場定奪。
像新聞中一場Uber（新潮白牌車）風波，Uber 因為沒有正規中文招牌名稱，所以曾經一度大家都研究這個字的發音起來。
究竟是讀u / you-ber 抑或oo-ber ？
Uber 源自德文，原意over、above。德文uberschall 就解supersonic，用作網上潮語等於ultimate、best。就像德國女子名Uta 讀oo-ta，Uber 發音oo-ber。問題是，這個商業招牌來自美國，而美國有猶他州Utah，讀you-tah。也即是說，Uber 讀法兩者都不能算錯，只要不讀做「阿爸」……講到底，what does it matter really，無所謂啦。
不時亦上新聞的， 有blue moon 藍月亮。話說原本每個月只有一次月圓，但因為農曆與公曆並非完全合，於是大概每三年就會出現一個月內有兩次月圓的現象：
Every month has a full moon, but because the lunar cycle and the calendar year aren’t perfectly synched, about every three years we wind up with two in the same calendar month.
西方社會，叫這個做blue moon，延伸出once in a blue moon，解罕有的、罕見的。
● You get a chance like this only once in a blue moon. You must grab it. 這種機會，非常難得。你要好好抓緊。
● The company put on a good performance only once in a blue moon. 這間公司只會罕有地表現出色。
● We live in a desert town, and it only rains here once in a blue moon. 我們住在沙漠城鎮，很少機會下雨。
但說月亮會變成藍色，似乎純粹是文藝聯想。一個講法是，如果月光真的帶藍，不過是因為大氣中的大量塵埃煙霞，譬如說，由火山大爆發等引起的情：
Typically, when a moon does take on a bluish hue, it is because of smoke or dust particles in the atmosphere, such as during a cataclysmic volcanic eruption.
