Vibe 與zing
近月，來自世界各地的街頭藝術家，得商業贊助，在深水聚頭，集體在橫街窄巷畫畫。有別於一般的graffiti 塗鴉， 他們是mural artists 壁畫藝術家，在舊樓的牆上作畫。作品完成，這裏那裏展示的一份斑斕，忽然，一整個舊區就活潑起來。讀報上的介紹，有這麼一句話：
Sham Shui Po is more than just electronicsand old Kowloon vibes. 深水不淨是有（鴨寮街的）電子產品及舊九龍的…vibes。Vibes？或聯想viper 蛇，龍蛇混雜，即有vice 罪行之意？ 不對。又或聯想vibrant、vibration 震動？對了。
A vibe、vibes 解一些感覺、一點情懷，源自一款叫vibraphone 電顫琴的樂器。係ageneral feeling that you get from a person ora place，可以關於一個人或地方，亦可以是事物，由feeling、aura 到atmosphere 都得：‧ I love Cat Stevens’ Morning Has Broken. Iget great vibes from that song. 我愛CatStevens 的《破曉》。那首歌令我縈繞感動。
‧ We were sitting on the beach, enjoyingthe summer vibe. 我們坐在沙灘，享受夏日氣氛。
‧ The movie managed to maintain apleasant comic vibe throughout. 這套電影由頭到尾維持到一份愉快的喜劇效果。
由上面例子可見，vibe 本身是中性的。要講正面的感覺，就要講明great vibes、thesummer vibe 之類。也即是說，亦有curiousvibes 古怪感覺及bad vibes 壞感覺。
‧ I get bad vibes from that person. Let’s notdo business with him.
對一個人有壞感覺，可能因為其人雖無過犯，但面目可憎。
‧ I get bad vibes from that flat. Let’s not rentit.
但對一個地方有壞感覺——像這句話——譯做中文，可能就是「風水」問題了。
而zing，通常是全盤歡欣雀躍的一個字，等於zest、delight、enthusiasm。
‧ The international mural artists have putzing into our Sham Shui Po. 那些國際壁畫藝術家為我們的深水平添喜樂活力。
‧ A bit of vinegar will add zing to the sauce.加點醋，醬料就更「開胃醒神」了。
Zing 做動詞，指快速或震動的聲音：
‧ A bullet zinged past him. 一顆子彈「嗖」的一聲擦過他身邊。
更要留意的，是在美加，zing 的動作同時解「嚴辭批評」：
‧ He zinged the urban planning proposals. 他嚴厲批評那些市區規劃建議。
