The incumbent Legislative Council (“LegCo”) member representing the legal sector, Dennis Kwok, submitted his nomination form today to seek re-election of the Legal functional constituency seat in LegCo.
As the representative of the legal sector in LegCo in the past 8 years, Dennis has devoted himself in upholding democracy, liberty, human rights, and the rule of law in Hong Kong to his best ability. He believes the legal sector and fellow Hongkongers would acknowledge his efforts both in and outside of the Council. A pessimistic outlook of Hong Kong’s democracy, freedom, rights, and the rule of law lies ahead. Dennis will stand firm on our core values, and fight alongside the people of Hong Kong and the legal constituency to find our way forward.
When asked whether he is worried about being disqualified from running, Dennis replied that rather than feeling worried which does not help, he awaits the returning officer’s questions regarding his eligibility to run.
On the question of whether he would sign the confirmation form, Dennis declared that he would do so, and would submit it together with the nomination form. He said, the majority of Hongkongers hope and expect the pro-democracy camp to win as many seats in this election as possible. Therefore he must strive to secure his candidacy. He said, members of the Professionals Guild also seeking re-election, and other candidates of the traditional functional constituencies, would also sign the confirmation form. Dennis will sign the form in solidarity with these candidates.
