Civic Party welcomes TV exchange for Pokulam Byelection
The District Council byelection for Pokfulam will be held on September 5. Mr Paul Zimmerman, a seasoned professional in urban planning and development, will stand as a Civic Party candidate. Recently Mr Michael Chugani, the host of the ATV Newsline programme, has issued an invitation to both candidates to appear on his programme ‘Newsline’ on ATV. Mr Paul Zimmerman has accepted the invitation. The programme will be recorded on Thursday 19 August 2010 and broadcast on ATV English channel on Sunday, 22 August 2010.
The Civic Party welcomes public discussions between candidates and broadcasts via TV, radio or digital media, and believes that such exchanges will help elevate the status of District Councils, and allow the electorate to make informed choices. The Civic Party hopes that Mr. Ellis Lau of Savantas will confirm the arrangement as soon as possible.
During investigations into the Telegraph Bay barging issue, the Civic Party has identified many conflicts in the government’s policy on the transportation of waste and construction materials as well as loopholes in the environmental impact assessment practices and procedures. The lack of coordination among government departments results in unnecessary pollution and traffic risks for the community, and oversight of works projects is found to be wanting. Civic Party is following up on these concerns issue with the various government departments.
