RE: Concerns about the anti-Chinese Riots in Vietnam
Dear Mrs Nguyen,
I write to express my grave concerns about the widespread anti-Chinese riots in Vietnam. Not only have the protests affected Chinese enterprises operating in Vietnam, including those owned by Hongkongers and the Taiwanese, they have also resulted in the loss of life and damages to property.
I urge the Vietnamese government to do everything possible to protect all tourists and residents in Vietnam, especially the lives and property of the Chinese diaspora. I recommend the Vietnamese government take immediate action to safeguard the rights and safety of all investors.
It is my opinion that territorial disputes between states should be resolved through diplomacy, and should never pose any threat to civilians. I sincerely hope that the Consulate General of Vietnam in Hong Kong would relay my message to the Vietnamese government, and take necessary steps to assist Hong Kong citizens.
Sincerely,
Dr. Kenneth Chan Ka-lok
Legislative Councilor of the HKSAR
