Office of Tanya Chan, Legislative Council Member, had collected more than eleven thousand signatures for the tree bill from different districts in Hong Kong in late July. On 27 July, Ms Chan handed in all the collected signatures to Mr Henry Tang Ying Yen to urge the government to listen to the public views on enacting the tree bill as soon as possible. Tanya is cooperating with Jim Chi-yung, Professor of Geography at the University of Hong Kong, to work on a private member’s bill that put tree management under one legal framework. The bill is expected to be tabled in the next Legco session.
