The Green New Deal is Civic Party’s Response to:
the need for a diversified economy – resilience;
community aspiration for a better environment – quality;
the public outcry for a fair deal for all – fairness.
We shall focus on 5 Key Areas:
Jobs – Creating Green and Decent Jobs
Opportunities – Stimulating green new opportunities for business
Urban Fabric – Planning and urban renewal for a better environment
Infrastructure – Building a sustainable infrastructure
Buildings – Upgrading to a low-carbon building stock
Our Action Plan over the next 100 days:
Step 1: Stakeholder Dialogue
We shall engage the following stakeholders and solicit their views on the key areas through workshops, opinion surveys, street forums and policy dialogues:
Grassroots – district kaifongs
Business sector – chambers, trade associations and SMEs
Professionals – professional bodies, policy think-tanks and academics
Civil Society groups – NGOs, green groups
Step 2: Policy Roundtable
We shall hold a Policy Roundtable in February 2009 to consider all the findings from the stakeholder dialogues. Our dedicated GND panel will consolidate the findings and work out a coherent plan.
Step 3: The Green New Deal
The Green New Deal will be announced on the 100th day (March 15, 2009) of the new CP Exco, with a call for action by government, business and the community.
The entire process will be coordinated by a dedicated GND Panel and undertaken by Stakeholder Engagement Groups under the leadership of CP Exco Members.
