Ms. Magda Nasr
The Consul General
Consulate of Arab Republic of Egypt in HKSAR
Ms. Magda Nasr,
The tragic violent incidents since the arrest and detention of the ousted Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi has claimed death and casualties of thousands of Egyptian, including many innocent civilian. This has raised concerns around the world on the future of Egypt. While the revolution in 2011 had gained the attention and applause of the international community in waiting to see a democratic Egypt, the chains of violent incidents soon after the presidential election had casted shadows on the peaceful reform of Egypt and this has been worsened after the past president was sacked.
On behalf of Civic Party, I am writing to you to express our deep concern over the violence spreading across Egypt. We heard that since the military crackdown started, over 800 Egyptians were killed, including innocent civilian and foreign correspondents, and the confrontation is still going on.
Civic Party deeply regrets over the recent bloodshed in Egypt. Today our party members have prepared white flowers to Egyptian Consulate, and pay silent tribute to the hundreds of victims who lost their life in the violent clashes.
We all long for the long-term peaceful settlement of both camps, so we call for immediate cease-fire and begin conversation. We believe that democracy is the prerequisite of future peace. it is also the common wish of all global citizens.
Yours Sincerely,
Kwok Ka Ki
Legislative Council Member
