公民黨陳家洛與動物保育團體呼籲立法禁止象牙貿易

公民黨立法會議員陳家洛今早出席由海峰教育基金和香港護象行動舉行的記者會，呼籲特區政府針對本港非法象牙貿易和買賣行為加強執法，並盡快研究立法禁止象牙貿易和買賣行為，否則大象將在10年內滅絕。他認為，香港市民作為世界公民，應積極參與推動大象保育、禁絕象牙貿易的全球性運動。
就中藝華廈文化生活時尚、永安百貨及裕華國貨停止售賣象牙貨品的決定，陳家洛認同有關做法。他表示，作為業界的重要代表，三間機構的做法有助樹立保育生物的正面榜樣，鼓勵更多機構採取實際行動，例如停售象牙產品，以保護大象，並接受公眾監察。
針對特區政府就象牙非法貿易的執法事宜，陳家洛指出，政府數字顯示本港過去五年所破獲的走私象牙案件數目、所涉象牙數量和市值都呈上升趨勢，但被定罪的最高罰則，即監禁期，卻持續下降。他擔心特區政府落後於形勢，有關罰則亦未能有效打擊走私象牙行為及增加阻嚇力，結果香港會落得「兩頭唔到岸」的局面，甚至向外界發放「一邊打擊，一邊放生」的錯誤和混亂訊息。
特區政府明日將進行銷毀庫存象牙的活動，預計庫存達28公噸的象牙將於一至兩年內全數銷毀，以免這批象牙有機會流出市面。
