毛孟靜：燒狗兇徒判刑過輕 要求律政司上訴

一名男子向唐狗潑天拿水引火焚燒，令其嚴重燒傷，最終被人道毀滅，昨被判囚八個月，立法會議員毛孟靜質疑刑罰太輕，促請律政司為動物取回公道，向法庭提出上訴。
此案被裁判官形容為「最壞、最殘酷的(同類)案件」，卻只被判囚八個月，遠低於最高監禁三年的刑罰。毛孟靜認為雖然被告自首及有悔意，但他特意買天拿水行兇，証明是有預謀的罪行，刑罰未能反映案件的嚴重性，難以有阻嚇力，防止同類事件發生。
毛孟靜擔心法庭發出錯誤訊息，公眾以為要有更殘忍的案件始有較嚴重懲罰。毛孟靜要求律政司立時跟進案件，提出上訴，為不能自辯的動物發聲。
毛孟靜早前就防止殘酷對待動物提出書面質詢，政府提供的數字顯示被定罪人士的判罰一直偏低。毛孟靜與律政司司長辦公室多番交涉，終定於下月五日聯同動物地球、動物友善政策關注小組、非牟利獸醫服務協會及其他動物團體與司長會面，討論如何處理刑罰過輕的虐待動物個案，尊重動物權益，與國際社會接軌。
